Plumber Wickham

Plumber Wickham work splits two ways: clay sewers more than a century old beneath the terrace rows, and newer apartments near the Interchange where one split hose can wet the unit below. Wickham borders Islington, and Islington Plumbing Co serves both halves of the suburb, with a fixed price set before any work.

Terraces, Towers and Groundwater

An old municipality

The suburb became its own municipality in 1871, and weatherboard and double-brick terraces and cottages from the Victorian and Edwardian years still line the older grid around Wickham Park. The salt-glazed sewers beneath them are more than a hundred years old, and the camera finds split collars and sunken joints.

Apartments on old rail land

Newcastle Interchange opened in 2017, and apartment blocks went up on land that once held rail yards and industry. Census figures record 45.1 per cent of the 816 dwellings as flats or apartments.

Water close under the surface

Much of the suburb sits on flat, partly reclaimed ground beside Throsby Creek, so a trench for a pipe repair can meet groundwater within a metre. Relining avoids that dig where the pipe is still in shape.

Ponding in the lanes

With level ground and paving everywhere, a short, heavy downpour pools in rear lanes and yards before it can drain away.

What Each Hub Handles Here

Plumber feeding a drain camera into a pit at a commercial unit

Blocked drains

Grease and fine roots caught at the worn joints of the terrace sewers, and old gully traps that take storm water as well.

Plumber finishing a continuous-flow gas hot water install

Hot water

Electric units in cupboards and on roofs across the rental stock, which can stop with no warning, with a temporary tank while the new one arrives.

Gas fitter checking an oven connection

Gas fitting

Disused coal-gas era pipe concealed in the walls and subfloors of pre-war cottages, tested or capped before any new appliance.

Emergency plumbing

Braided hoses in the post-2017 apartments coming up to their first failures, and tired galvanised pipe in the cottages letting go where it runs beneath brick foundations.

Not ours: a failed membrane in an apartment bathroom belongs to a waterproofer, and building-wide pumps or fire services in a strata block go to their own specialist contractors.

Questions From the Terrace Streets

Can the old clay sewer under a Wickham terrace be cleared?

Yes. It is opened with a jetter or an electric eel and then filmed, so you see the clear for yourself. Where collars have cracked or joints have dropped, relining is worth pricing, since a trench on this flat ground fills with water at shallow depth.

Is there a call-out fee here?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). A visit outside business hours carries its own rate, given before you book.
